EL PASO, TX - On February 13, 2024, the El Paso Sheriff's Office and the Council of Judges hosted a CPR Certification Class and a Courthouse EVAC training session. Individual members from the sheriff's department, district attorney's office, county attorney's office, and courthouse bailiffs participated in this 4-hour American Heart Association accredited training.

Crisis intervention team attends 3rd annual Alzheimer’s Caregiver Conference

EL PASO, TX - February 17, 2024 - The El Paso County Sheriff's Office attends the 3rd Annual Alzheimer's Caregiver Conference hosted by the West Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. During the event, the Crisis Intervention Team shared information about their role in the community and the resources available to support individuals and families facing mental health crises. The team highlighted the importance of understanding and addressing the unique needs of those with cognitive impairments and provided tips and strategies for effectively communicating with and de-escalating situations involving individuals with dementia. The conference provided a platform for caregivers to connect, learn, and access resources to better support their loved ones with cognitive impairment. The Crisis Intervention Team's participation in the event further highlights their commitment to providing compassionate and effective support to those in need.

Northwest Patrol Station Deputies Visit Elementary Schools in Canutillo for Valentine's Day

EL PASO, TX - On February 13, 2024, El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies from the Northwest Patrol Station coordinated a school visit at Deanna Davenport Elementary, Bill Childress Elementary, and Gonzalo & Sofia Garcia Elementary schools. Deputies met with special education students and their teachers to celebrate Valentine's Day by giving them chocolate candy. Deputies reminded students that during Valentine's Day, we celebrate friendship, and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies are friends of the community. Teachers and students showed great appreciation for this visit to their schools.

PJHS CID-TRU TEAM ARREST–FRANCISCO QUIJAS

EL PASO, TEXAS - On February 15, 2024, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies from the Peter John Herrera Patrol Station CID-TRU Team worked up an arrest warrant for Theft Prop>=$2,500<$30k (Fraud) on 39-year-old Quijas, Francisco III. Throughout further investigation, it was determined that between 05/03/2021 and 07/15/2023, the victim paid Quijas a total of $9500.00 in an attempt to buy a property lot from the area in Horizon. The victim later found out Quijas was not the owner of the property. As a result of the investigation, a warrant of arrest was issued. On 02/16/2024, Quijas was taken into custody at his residence without incident and was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a total $20,000 bond.

EL PASO HOTEL & LODGING ASSOCIATION GUEST SPEAKER

EL PASO, TX - The El Paso Hotel and Lodging Association hosted the luncheon on February 15, 2024, at the Hotel Paso del Norte. The event featured a presentation on CRASE by Sgt. Jesus Acuna, from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, focuses on safety and security management for local hotels and businesses in the area. Around 80 individuals in attendance were provided with information on how to respond to an active shooter event. In the upcoming month, the association has extended an invitation to our Crisis Intervention Team to deliver a presentation on Mental Health Awareness.

Positive Law Enforcement Interactions with Students

EL PASO, TX - On February 15, 2024, the Motor Section of the El Paso County Sheriff's Office demonstrated bike maneuvers on their motorcycles at Desert Hills Elementary School. They interacted with students, explained their job description, and introduced themselves, showing positive interactions with law enforcement. The Deputies performed admirably by addressing the inquiries posed by the students, distributing prizes to those who participated in the races, and asking questions. The students had a good time watching the Deputies ride their bikes.

EL PASO, TX - Gonzalo & Sofia Garcia Elementary and Bill Childress Elementary Schools conducted their annual Science Fair on February 13th and 15th. The students presented their science projects for evaluation by judges, including Deputy Alvillar, additional law enforcement officials, and teachers. Assessing the projects proved to be a challenging endeavor as all students delivered impressive presentations. Educators, students, and personnel expressed their appreciation for the involvement of law enforcement agencies at the Science Fair held at their schools.

On February 9, 2024, Deputy Peter John Herrera Patrol Station deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of Purcell, San Elizario, TX, in El Paso County about a burglary or vehicle. Upon arrival and after further investigation, deputies were able to locate and apprehend the offender, a 20-year-old Guerrero named Andrew Isaiah. Guerrero was taken into custody without incident and was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility for Burglary of Vehicles with a $2,000 bond. Guerrero was previously arrested by the PJHS CID-TRU Team in January 2024 for a separate vehicle burglary.
