Drug Awareness Presentation at Mesita Elementary School

EL PASO, TEXAS – On May 20, 2024, the Northwest Patrol Station deputies attended Mesita Elementary School to conduct a “Drug Awareness” presentation for second and third-grade students. Students and staff from Mesita Elementary were very appreciative with the Sheriff’s Office for attending their school and educating their students about the dangers and consequences of using drugs, including the dangers of “Vaping”.

The Crisis intervention team attends the El Paso VA National Police Week Event.

EL PASO, TEXAS – On May 17, 2024, The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) participated in the El Paso VA Police Week Event, which provided the opportunity for various law enforcement agencies to come together and meet with veterans, their families, and other members of the community. EPSO CIT Deputies and EHN staff gave out goodies and provided information about the services and resources available to the community, specifically mental health resources. By participating in community events such as the VA Police Week, EPSO continues to play an active and positive role within the El Paso community.

INCIDENT INVOLVING COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE AND PEDESTRIAN

EL PASO, TEXAS – On May 16, 2024, at approximately 4:30 a.m., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies with the east Montana patrol station were Dispatched to the 14000 block of Montana Ave,. in reference to an incident involving a Commercial Motor Vehicle and a pedestrian with serious injuries. Special traffic investigators have been called out to the scene and investigation is ongoing at this time. All eastbound traffic on Montana is being rerouted at Krag St. all the way to Buntline.

Fabens ISD hosts Special Education Field Day at Risinger Park.

EL PASO, TEXAS – On May 10th, 2024, EL Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies from the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station were invited to attend the Field Day hosted by Fabens ISD at Risinger Park. Various community members came together and had a cookout, providing food, drinks, and games for the Special Education students and staff. Toys and teddy bear plushies that the community had generously donated were handed out by Deputies, spreading joy to the young students in attendance. The students were given the opportunity to have a great time thanks to the school administrators and community members who graciously volunteered for the event.

FINAL FAREWELL TO DEPUTY CONSTABLE ALLAN DICKERSON

EL PASO, TEXAS – The motorcade procession held on Tuesday, May 14th, at 10:30 a.m. was a solemn and respectful event meant to honor Alan Dickerson's many years of dedicated service as a member of the law enforcement community. Acknowledging his hard work and commitment to keeping the community safe was a fitting tribute.
The procession paid homage to Alan and showed support and appreciation for his family and colleagues who have stood by him throughout his career. The motorcade route was carefully planned to pass by significant locations in Alan's professional journey, including the Jail Annex facility, Region VIII Training Academy, Montana Patrol Station, Motor Pool, and Headquarters. This symbolic journey highlighted the impact that Alan has had on each of these institutions and the legacy he leaves behind.
As the motorcade made its way through each location, it was met with heartfelt salutes and gestures of respect from fellow officers and staff members who had worked alongside Alan over the years. The outpouring of support and gratitude was a testament to the high regard in which Alan was held within the law enforcement community. It served as a reminder of the importance of honoring those who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting others.

TRAIN VS PEDESTRIAN INCIDENT AT CAMP ST. AND FABENS RD.

EL PASO, TEXAS UPDATE– On May 12, 2024, at approximately 1:30 pm., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies with the Peter John Herrera Station were dispatched to the intersection of N. Fabens and Austin regarding an accident involving a train and a bicyclist. Upon their arrival, they located the pedestrian with no signs of life. Special traffic investigators were requested to help investigate along with railroad police, the Sheriff’s Office Crime scene unit, and an investigator with the medical examiners' office.
The investigation showed that the pedestrian, later identified as 45-year-old Jesus Vega of Fabens, Texas, had crossed the train tracks while the crossing gates were down. At that same time, an Amtrak train with its passengers was passing through the crossing and struck Mr. Vega which resulted in his death. Next of kin has been made to family of Mr. Vega. The train passengers or the staff on the train were not injured.
EL PASO, TEXAS – On May 12, 2024, at approximately 1:30 pm., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call regarding a pedestrian vs train incident in the intersection of Camp Street and Fabens. Special investigators were called out on the scene. Camp St. To main street will be closed off for the next couple of hours. Investigation is ongoing. No further details at this time.

This group of hard-working individuals were honored for their many hours of study, preparation, and hard work to reach their goal of becoming Sheriff’s Office Detention Officers.

Canutillo Elementary School Career Day Event 5.3.24

EL PASO, TEXAS – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office DDF Operations section participated in the Canutillo Elementary School Career Day event. The Sheriff’s Office Operations Section educated students on the critical job of a Detention Officer. Students learned about the different sections within the jail and how to become a Detention Officer. Students were able to ask questions, were given goodies, and were educated on the importance of continuing their education and pursuing careers in law enforcement.
