November 14, 2022
El Paso, Texas – Sheriff Richard Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office hosted a group of officers from La Secretaria de Seguridad Publica del Estado de Chihuahua on November 7 and November 8, 2022. The Chihuahua agency is in the process of obtaining CALEA Accreditation in March of next year. The entire group worked with very closely with Sheriff’s Office personnel to review Sheriff’s Office Policies and Procedures that are implemented through the entire agency.
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority thought the joint efforts of law enforcement’s major executive associations:
· International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP)
· National Organization of Black Law enforcement Executives (NOBLE)
· National sheriff’s Association (NSA)
· Police Executive Research Forum (PERF)
Accreditation embodies the precepts of community-oriented policing. It creates a forum in which law enforcement agencies and citizens work together to prevent and control challenges confronting law enforcement and provides clear direction about expectations.
