El Paso, Texas On Saturday, June 10th, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office along with other law enforcement agencies partnered with Special Olympics Texas to participate in the first annual “Kick It with A Cop” Kickball event. Officers teamed up with athletes from the El Paso area for an opportunity to compete for the “Kick It with A Cop” championship.

EL PASO, TEXAS - On June 27, 2023, at approximately 2:30 am., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies from the Peter Herrera Patrol station responded to the 12300 block of Campo Bello St. in reference to an aggravated assault. One 16-year-old male was transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. This is an isolated incident; there is no imminent threat to the public. No further information is available at this time.

**MISSING PERSON** Jose Puga

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) requests assistance locating the following missing person. On 06/23/2023 at approximately

1215 hours, the pictured person, identified as Jose Puga, 20 years of age, was reported missing from the area of the 1300 block of Lomaland Dr. Mr. Puga was last seen wearing: Long sleeve orange neon shirt with reflective lines, dark colored jeans, light brown work boots. Jose is believed to need medical assistance.

Anyone with information regarding Jose Puga or his whereabouts is asked to contact the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Intervention Team at 915-832-4408 or 9-1-1.

100 BLOCK OF BROOK AVENUE MURDER UPDATE

June 23, 2023

El Paso, Texas – On June 19, 2023, detectives with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit obtained an arrest warrant for 33-year-old Steven Mathew Macias in connection with the murder of 51-year-old Jose Luis Arvizu. The warrant comes after a lengthy investigation where detectives traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah, after obtaining information from the Salt Lake City Police Department that Macias may have direct knowledge of Arvizu’s death. At the time, Macias was being held on unrelated charges in the Salt Lake City County Metro Jail. Steven Mathew Macias is pending extradition to El Paso County on a warrant for murder. The warrant has a $2,000,000.00 bond.

200 BLOCK OF FLOR BELLA LN - THEFT OF VEHICLE

June 23, 2023

El Paso, Texas - On June 18, 2023, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of Flor Bella LN., in Tornillo, Texas, in reference to a Theft of a Vehicle. During the investigation, Deputies obtained surveillance video showing the theft occurring. A short time later, 55-year-old David Trevizo was stopped by Deputies on Interstate 10, driving the stolen vehicle. Trevizo was booked into the El Paso County Jail and has since been released on a personal recognizance bond.

FUGITIVE APPREHENSION UNIT ARREST- HECTOR MANUEL DIAZ DOMINGUEZ

June 23, 2023

El Paso, Texas - On Thursday, June 22, 2023, Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit received an arrest warrant for 54-year-old Dominguez, Hector Manuel Diaz, who was wanted on a felony warrant for Sex Abuse of Child Continuous Victim under 14 / Prohibited Sexual Contact. Deputies made contact with Dominguez at the 3700 block of Mattox Ave., El Paso, Texas. Dominguez was taken into custody without incident and subsequently booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility without bond.

El Paso, Texas – On Saturday, June 17, 2023, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies and support staff put together, Cops, Kids, and Courts Basketball Camp connecting the communities of Canutillo, Vinton, and Westway for a day of positive policing interaction, engagement, and fun with our youth. The camp included special basketball instruction from Sul Ross State University's Men's Assistant Basketball Coach, Jake Lopez, and Canutillo High School Boys' basketball coach Larry Morales.

The Event included a special guest appearance from NBA Markieff Morris Sr. A Special "THANK YOU" to Markieff Morris Sr., New York Life, DICKS Sporting Goods, Operation Hope Superhero’s, Canutillo Independent School District, Sul Ross State University, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies and staff that made this Event a success and memorable moment for all our youth.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ON A PUBLIC SERVANT ARREST - Jose De Jesus Hernandez

June 22, 2023

El Paso, Texas – On June 18, 2023, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the Montana Patrol Station attempted to locate a vehicle at the 1000 block of Zabel involved in an evading incident. While deputies were at the location, 30-year-old Jose De Jesus Hernandez walked up to them, stating he had a firearm while holding an item wrapped in an orange shop towel. Hernandez was subsequently taken into custody without incident.  Hernandez was booked into the El Paso County Jail and charged with Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant. Hernandez is being held under a $30,000 bond.

WANTED MURDER SUBJECT OUT OF HOBBS, N.M., TAKEN INTO CUSTODY - Jose Armando Muro

June 22, 2023

EL PASO, TEXAS – On June 19, 2023, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the Montana Patrol Station attempted to locate a subject wanted for murder out of Hobbs, NM, at the 4400 block of Turf Rd. While deputies were at the location, 27-year-old Jose Armando Muro attempted to evade deputies but was subsequently taken into custody. Muro was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with no bond.

INCIDENT WITH SERIOUS INJURIES - UPDATE

June 21, 2023

El Paso, Texas – UPDATEOn June 20, 2023, 19-year-old Anthony Nguyen Duenas was taken into custody for an incident on April 16, 2023, in the Town of Horizon City, Texas. The lengthy investigation determined that Duenas shot and killed a 15-year-old juvenile and injured an adult female during a party. Duenas was arrested and charged with Murder and Aggravated Assault (with a Deadly Weapon). Duenas was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $1,150,000 total bond.  

El Paso, Texas - On April 16, 2023, at approximately 1:33 am., Horizon Police Department was dispatched to the desert area of Batavia St. in Horizon City, Texas, in reference to a party in the desert area where shots were fired. When officers arrived, they encountered over 200 people. The Sheriff's Office can confirm that one adult female was transported with non-life-threatening injuries. A second juvenile male was transported to a local area hospital, where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. El Paso County Sheriff's Office was requested and has taken over the investigation.

Special thanks to Marcus McCoy, Executive Administrative Officer Lucille Samuel, and everyone with the McCall Neighborhood Center for all they do year-round to keep El Paso history alive.

RESOLUTION: WHEREAS, on June 19, 1865, the People of Texas first learned that all enslaved people in the former Confederacy had been freed, two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation. Proclamation to the rebellion states; and WHEREAS, nearly 250,000 formerly enslaved people in Texas were to be given absolute equality in their personal and property rights following the reading of General Order Number 3, delivered by Union General Gordon Granger in Galveston following the end of the American Civil War; and WHEREAS, on January 1, 1980, Juneteenth became an official state holiday in Texas through the efforts of Al Edwards, an African American state legislator. The successful passage of this bill marked Juneteenth as the first emancipation celebration granted official state recognition; and WHEREAS, Juneteenth, also called Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, remains the most popular and widely recognized annual event celebrating the end of slavery in the United States; and WHEREAS, Juneteenth is a reminder of the horrors inflicted on African Americans, while simultaneously serving as a reminder of all of the challenges and obstacles overcome in the fight for civil rights, voting rights, and social justice and the achievements made by millions of African Americans; and WHEREAS, the McCall Neighborhood Center exists to facilitate in honoring and preserving Black heritage in the Southwest; and WHEREAS, this year McCall Neighborhood Center is hosting Discovering Our Roots, a Juneteenth Breakfast with guest speaker Pastor Artie C. Maxwell Jr. on Monday, June 19 to commemorate the day. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the El Paso County Judge and Commissioners Court, that June 19 be recognized and celebrated as: “Juneteenth” in El Paso County, Texas.

Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office held a graduation at Pebble Hills High School, 14400 Pebble Hills Blvd, El Paso, TX 79938. The ceremony was for Detention Officer Class 23-02. Their Class name is Wolverines, and their class motto is "We don't die, we go home" This group of hard-working individuals was honored for their many hours of study, preparation, and hard work to become Sheriff's Office Basic Detention Officers.
