EXPLORER POST 2005 – TRAINING (FIRST AID)

June 2, 2023

El Paso, Texas - On June 1, 2023, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Community Services Section held training for the Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 2005. The topic of today's teaching consisted of the B.A.T.H. process (Bleeding et al.), which includes basic first aid, tourniquet application, and wound packing. The explorers received a guide that taught them how to administer emergency first aid. Next, the instructors broke them into teams of two and gave a scenario on how to bandage the wounds of victims and how to apply tourniquets. They received instructions to wrap a knife injury and never remove a knife from an injured party. Next, the instructors presented and displayed how to use a tourniquet for a gunshot wound and demonstrated and instructed the importance of cutting off the blood circulation of an injured party, losing much blood. The explorers then conducted hands-on training on lifesaving techniques.
