Loya Elementary Presented with Door Locks for Safety

El Paso, TX – On September 8, 2022, the students of Lorenzo G. Loya Primary School in San Elizario, TX were presented with over 30 Travel Door Locks. These locks are portable, add extra security to classrooms, and prevent unauthorized entry, in case of a mass shooting at the school. The locks are small but will hold the door shut firmly. El Paso County Sheriff Deputies from the Peter J Herrera Patrol Station, School Resource Officers, and the Emergency Response Team donated money to purchase the locks for the school. These deputies were honored for the opportunity to help increase school security and help keep the children safe.

Motor Vehicle Accident on I-10 Eastbound at Mile marker 2

EL PASO, TEXAS - At approximately 4:30 am El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to I-10 East in reference to a single vehicle accident. Upon arrival, they found a motorcyclist on the side of the road. Sheriff's Office Special Traffic Investigators are currently on the scene. I-10 eastbound MM 2 is closed re-routing traffic to Transmountain at mile marker 6 for the next 3 hours. Please be careful and be safe.

Improper relationship between an educator and student

August 31, 2022
EL PASO, TEXAS - On June 20, 2022, El Paso Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a residence in Fabens, TX, in reference to information on an improper relationship between an educator and student. During the preliminary investigation, deputies received information that a coach employed with the Fabens Independent School District was sending inappropriate text messages to a student.
At that time, the investigation was turned over to the Major Crimes Unit. During the course of the investigation, detectives obtained information that the coach and student had sexual intercourse inside a locker room at Fabens High School, located at 601 NE G, on June 16, 2022. The coach was identified as Cale James Danielson, age 27. Danielson was no longer employed with Fabens ISD when the investigation was conducted and was no longer living in El Paso County. A warrant of arrest was issued for Danielson for Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student with a $50,000 bond. Danielson turned himself in on August 17, 2022, at the El Paso County Detention Facility. Danielson posted bond that same day and is no longer in custody. There is no other information at this time.

Texas Division OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR IDENTIFICATION; CRIME SCENE UNIT RECOGNITION

EL PASO, TEXAS - This coming fall, The Texas Forensic Science Commission will launch a General Forensic Analyst Licensing Exam for anyone practicing in forensic disciplines that are not required to be accredited or licensed under Texas law. Forensic disciplines eligible for the pilot exam include forensic anthropology; crime scene reconstruction; latent print examination; digital evidence (including computer forensics, audio, or imaging); breath specimen testing under Transportation Code, Chapter 724, limited to analysts who perform breath alcohol calibrations.
During the Texas IAI Conference the Commission ran a pilot exam in which El Paso County Sheriff's Office CSI Thea Navarro had the opportunity to be a candidate for the pilot exam. The Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce that CSI Thea Navarro has become one of the first to obtain this License in the state of Texas and is the first in our agency.
The Sheriff’s Office has made a strong push to improve the training and technology within the Crime Scene Unit. Two weeks ago, Crime Scene Investigator Thea Navarro and Crime Scene Unit Supervisor Ashley Rosiles were appointed to the Texas Division International Association for Identification (IAI) Education Committee. The Education Committee is tasked with promoting educational schools, training courses, and coordinating courses offered at the annual Texas Division IAI Training Conference. The committee consists of a chairperson and three members. The President of the Texas Division IAIIn appointed the three members, in which CSI Navarro and CSUS Rosiles were selected, and will serve a 3-year term as committee members. On the 3rd year, either CSI Navarro or CSUS Rosiles will be selected to be the Chairperson for the Education Committee. In which they will be tasked with:

Maintaining funds or accounts to take care of day-to-day business and conduct business in the name of the Texas Division of the IAI.

Keeping records and statistics of training sponsored or hosted in accordance with the rules of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).

Providing a report to the Board of Directors on Activities of the Committee as well as the General Membership at the Annual Training Conference.
This is the first time that anyone in the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit has been selected to serve on a committee for the Texas Division IAI.

1400 block of Santa Fe Trails Rd

EL PASO, TEXAS - On August 21st, 2022, at about 4:40 pm the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the desert area near the 1400 block of Santa Fe Trails Rd. in the Montana Vista area of El Paso County. Upon arrival deputies located the victim approximately 250 yards off the roadway. The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is currently investigating the incident; however, at this time there is no belief of foul play. Investigation is ongoing, no further information at this time.
