PRESENTATION AT THE DAVID ORTIZ RECREATION CENTER

El Paso, Texas On Monday, August 8th, 2022, EL Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies Nesbitt and Gonzalez gave a presentation at the Officer David Ortiz Recreation Center (Carolina Center) located at the 500 block of N. Carolina. They passed out information on protecting the elderly against crime and emphasized their vulnerability. Deputies discussed the steps to take to prevent thefts and scams.  They also handed out important phone number cards to everyone in attendance.

Manslaughter Arrest and Issues at Fort Defiance

August 9, 2022

EL PASO, TEXAS - ​On the morning of August 7th, 2022, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office responded to The Hospital of Providence East Campus in reference to a male subject who was shot and taken to the hospital. The Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit responded and began their investigation. The Victim who was identified as 21- year- old Cisqo Rodriguez, of El Paso, died as a result of his injuries. The Sheriff's Office is still in the preliminary stages of the investigation, and no further information will be released at this time.

UPDATE: On August 8th, 2022, the Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit determined that Isaac Carlos, 18 years of age, was responsible for the shooting death of Cisqo Rodriquez. The shooting occurred at the 3700 block of N Zaragoza Rd. Carlos was taken into custody and charged with Manslaughter. Carlos was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a $500,000.00 Bond.

During the investigation detectives also learned that before being shot, Rodriguez had been at a " mansion party" at 5081 Fort Defiance with Carlos. The El Paso Sheriff's Office has responded to and investigated several incidents at 5081 Fort Defiance in the past few months. Other incidents have also occurred in the surrounding areas near 5081 Fort Defiance involving individuals who attended different "mansion parties" at 5081 Fort Defiance.

In 2022, there have been over 20 incidents that have occurred or are related to 5081 Fort Defiance.

Incidents include:

  • 1 Death
  • 6 Drug Offenses
  • 4 Driving While Intoxicated
  • 2 Aggravated Assaults
  • 3 Assaults
  • 4 Injured Parties
  • 2 Information Received
  • 1 Burglary of Vehicle
  • 1 Runaway
  • 1 Abandoned Property

The targeted age group for these parties is usually teenagers through early twenty-year-olds. Invite for these parties is usually through social media. The Sheriff's Office is addressing the issues at 5081 Fort Defiance through various means of enforcement and working jointly with other local law enforcement agencies. The Sheriff's Office strongly encourages parents to monitor their child's activities and understand the danger their child puts themselves in by attending one of these parties. Teenagers and young adults are putting themselves in what can easily be a life-or-death situation.

14100 BLOCK OF FORT DEFIANCE DR. TRAFFIC STOP – VICTOR GONZALEZ

August 9, 2022

El Paso, Texas On Saturday, August 6th, 2022, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the Montana Patrol Station, conducted a traffic stop at the 14100 block of Fort Defiance Dr. Through the course of the investigation, deputies located marijuana and prescription pills underneath the center console. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 24-year-old, Victor Gonzalez. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged with Possession of Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1: 1G < 4G and Possession of Marijuana: < 2 oz. Gonzalez was booked into the El Paso County Jail under a $6,000 bond.

HI-Five Friday at WM. D. Surratt Elementary

August 8, 2022

El Paso, Texas On Friday, August 5, 2022, with the return of the normal school routine, William David Surratt Elementary is bringing back “Hi-Five Fridays.” This morning Deputy Rillo assigned to our Traffic Unit was able to assist in greeting students and staff as they arrived to start their school / workday. Parents were delighted to see Deputy Rillo as they brought their children to school. In strengthening our Community Policing efforts, we will continue to bring such events to the W.D.S. campus.

Hacienda Del Norte Homeowners association meeting

El Paso, Texas On Saturday, August 6, 2022, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Community Service deputies attended the Hacienda Del Norte Homeowners association meeting, Deputies presented and passed out information on identity theft and scams on senior citizens. They also handed out the important phone number cards to all the members. They also showed them how to download the crime map and our Facebook that is listed on the cards.

Commander Urrutia discussed the issues happening at Fort Defiance Dr. and addressed the new curfew order. Residents asked about having vehicles towed on their property. They were advised if it’s on their property, they can have the vehicles towed. Lt. Harrison also addressed issues on Fort Defiance.

HORIZON – EASTLAKE Regional cOMMUNITY MEETING

August 6, 2022

El Paso, Texas On Saturday, August 6, 2022, representing the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, Community Service Section Deputies attended the Horizon-Eastlake Regional Community. The Meeting was held at the ESD Fire Administration Building Located at 14151 Nunda Ave., Horizon City, Texas 79928. Presentations from the University Medical Center of El Paso and El Paso County Commissioner Pct.3 Illiana Holguín were given.

Sheriffs Deputies provided Informational pamphlets on “Lock it or Lose it” and answered questions. They also provided residents with information on the upcoming events that the Sheriff’s Office is having. National Coffee with a deputy on October 5th, 2022, and Texas Night Out on October 4th, 2022.

SHERIFF’S OFFICE STILL ASKING FOR FAN DONATIONS!!

El Paso, Texas On Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Foundation along with the deputies from the Sheriff’s Office Community Services Section, hosted a Fan Drive to collect Fans to help people especially the elderly, special needs, and veterans. The Fan Drive was held at El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters Cafeteria located at 3850 Justice Dr., El Paso, TX 79938.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has been part of the Extreme Weather Task Force for the past 13 years. The Extreme Weather Task Force has received 478 fan requests. Unfortunately, their fan donations have been low. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Foundation had a set goal of collecting at least 500 but were fans short. We are very grateful to El Paso Elks Lodge 187, who donated 100 fans, plus other people in the community who donated.

We are continuing the drive until Monday, August 8th, in hopes to collect 100 more!! We truly appreciate if every county employee would donate at least one. We thank those county employees who have already donated.

Sgt. Lorenzo Adan Morales Terminated

August 5, 2022

El Paso, Texas - Lorenzo Morales, arrested by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office on July 18, 2022, on an indictment for Indecency with a Child by Contact, has been terminated from the Sheriff’s Office effective today.   He had been employed with the agency for 13 years, most recently working as a supervisor at the Downtown Jail Facility.
