UNATTENDED DEATH NEAR LUISA GUERRA DR. AND PETUNIA DR.

June 13, 2022

El Paso, Texas – On June 13, 2022, at approximately 9:20 A.M., the El Paso County Sheriff's Office responded to the discovery of a body in the canal near the area of Luisa Guerra and Petunia in San Elizario, TX. The El Paso County Search and Rescue team was utilized to remove the body from the canal. The Sheriff's Office Major Crime Unit responded and is investigating the individual's death. The individual located is a male subject but has not been positively identified. The male subject's body was transported to the El Paso Medical Examiner's Office, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Unresponsive Female at Cynthia’s Cantina

June 10, 2022

El Paso, Texas – On June 10, 2022, at approximately 6:00 am Police Officers with the Socorro Police Department were dispatched to an unresponsive female at Cynthia’s Cantina located at 11400 Gateway East Blvd., El Paso, County, Texas. Upon arrival, officers determined that a female in her 40's was deceased. The Socorro Police Department requested assistance from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit. The investigation is ongoing and is being treated as a homicide like all other death-related investigations. The Sheriff’s Office believes that the incident is isolated to the establishment and there is no threat to the public. The Sheriff’s Office will provide additional information as it becomes available.

SHERIFF’S OFFICE TO HOST SHERIFF’S SAFETY TOWN

El Paso, Texas – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Community Services Section will host Sheriff’s Safety Town June 27th – 30th, 2022. This annual event provides important safety tips and information on subjects like:

§ 9-1-1 Emergency and How Kids Can Respond presented by Safety Pup

§ Traffic & Pedestrian Safety presented by Deputy Dawg

Sheriff’s Safety Town will be held at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters, located at 3850 Justice Dr., El Paso, TX 79938. Sheriff’s Safety Town is open to children ages 5-10 (20 children maximum class size), from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration per child is $10 and includes daily snacks and refreshments. Featured Fugitive is Apprehended - Joshua Brandon Marcum

EL PASO, TEXAS – Joshua Brandon Marcum, who was initially featured on the Crime Stoppers Most Wanted for the week of November 12, 2021, has been apprehended.  Marcum was wanted for AGGRAVATED ASSAULT W/DEADLY WEAPON; POM<=5LBS>4OZ.

Career Day Presentation

El Paso, Texas – On Friday, May 27th, 2022, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Community Service Deputies attended Hughey Elementary School located at 6201 Hughey Dr. El Paso, Texas for Career Day.  Sheriff’s Deputies had the opportunity to talk to the children and encourage them to start thinking about becoming a law enforcement officer.  Even though they are at a young age the children listened and asked questions about what a deputies does.  Sheriff’s deputies also displayed gear and equipment they use and talked about the uniform.  Everyone in attendance enjoyed the presentation and the deputies enjoyed talking to the students and teachers.

EPCSO Crisis Intervention Team

EL PASO TX - On Thursday, May 26th, 2022, Deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Intervention Team participated in the “Mental Health Resource Fair” hosted by Live Active-El Paso at the San Jacinto Plaza. The fair was intended to educate the community of El Paso County in the several mental health facilities and resources available in our community. CIT Deputies also educated attendees in the goals and services provided by CIT. The attendees enjoyed activities, motivational speeches, and met with Mental Health support organizations.

Arrest of Murder Suspect

El Paso, Texas - On February 12, 2022, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit was requested by the Socorro Police Department in reference to a homicide investigation.   Azul Ruiz, 44 years of age, was shot and killed inside her residence located at the 200 block of Isabel in Socorro, Texas. Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified 19-year-old Carlos Alberto Sifuentes as responsible for Mrs. Ruiz's death. Sifuentes was arrested on February 13, 2022, and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility for Murder.

As the investigation continued, detectives also identified 19- year- old Daisy Rodriquez, who had a participating role in the murder of Mrs. Ruiz. On May 24, 2022, Rodriquez was arrested and charged with murder. Rodriquez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $1,250,000.00 bond.

Theft charges and Assault on a Peace Officer

EL PASO, TEXAS - On May 24th, 2022 at approximately 6:50 PM, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to a restaurant in Clint, Texas, near the intersection of Alameda and FM1110 in reference to a theft.  Sheriff’s Deputies obtained a description on the suspect and located Kimberly Anne Nitkowski (49 YOA) in the area.  As a Sheriff’s Deputy approached Nitkowski, Nitkowski attempted to flee.  Once the Deputy caught up to Nitkowski, Nitkowski assaulted the Sheriff’s Deputy as the Sheriff’s Deputy was attempting to restrain Nitkowski.  Nitkowski was taken in to custody and charged with Theft <$100 and Assault on a Peace Officer with a total bond of $2,000.00.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT- SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS


May 26, 2022

El Paso, Texas – Sheriff Richard D. Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office would like to remind the community of our partnership with the area school districts. The Sheriff's Office has been in a partnership with the Clint Independent School District and San Elizario Independent School Districts for eight years, and the Sheriff's Office has recently added the Fabens Independent School District to our partnership.

The Patrol Division Commander Ryan Urrutia has been able to grow the program over the past four years from nine School Resource Officers in two school districts to nineteen School Resource Officers in three school districts. The program serves as a security measure for the campuses, mentorship of students, education of social media postings, drug education awareness, and consciousness to parents and staff. Commander Ryan Urrutia who leads the School Resource Officers Team would like to remind parents and staff in our community that we are working to assure our children have the safest educational environment to learn and grow.

SAN ELIZARIO AND FABENS ISD SPECIAL EDUCATION ALL ABILITIES FIELD DAY

El Paso, Texas – On May 24, 2022, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Section, Constable Javier Garcia, and his staff participated in the San Elizario and Fabens I.S.D. Special Education All Abilities Field Day. Sheriff's deputies and deputy constables were extremely humbled and proud to be able to participate in the activities. It was a rewarding opportunity to see these students, full of energy and excitement. Constable Garcia and Commander Urrutia also participated in a flag football game hosted by the varsity athletes from San Elizario and Fabens I.S.D. for Special Education students. All the happy faces made the officers' day a memorable one.
