9/11 Remembrance - Tornillo Elementary

El Paso, Texas - On Thursday, September 10th, 2021, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies from the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station visited the students at Tornillo Elementary.  Deputies joined the students in reciting the pledge of allegiance and then provided a speech on public and school safety.  Afterwards, the deputies discussed 9/11, its impact on the country, as well as remembrance of the anniversary.

DRUG AWARENESS PRESENTATION - Tornillo Highschool

El Paso, Texas - On September 09, 2021, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies attended a Drug Awareness presentation at Tornillo High School. Deputies gave the students, parents, and staff a presentation on how the effects of drug use is undeniably impacting high school students. Deputies also provided statistics and discussed substance abuse. The students were engaged during the presentation and asked informed questions. Assistant Principal Jackie Medina commented on the presentation being well organized and informative.

LOCKDOWN DRILL AT TORNILLO ELEMENTARY

September 8, 2021

El Paso, Texas - On Tuesday, September 7, 2021, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies from the Peter J. Herrera Station along with school administration and security, participated in a lockdown drill at Tornillo Elementary. 

The purpose of a school lockdown drill was to help familiarize the children and staff with responding to a potential emergency such as the presence of a school shooter.  Deputies were at the school to help accustom students and teachers to a procedure that they will be able to follow quickly, effectively, and safely.  The school staff, students, and deputies all had an enjoyable and learning experience participating in this very important drill.

FENTANYL - ARREST

September 8, 2021

El Paso, Texas - On September 7, 2021, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies from the Peter J Herrera Patrol Station conducted a traffic stop at the 1300 block of North Darrington.  Upon further investigation and a vehicle search, Deputies discovered 409 grams of pills, determined to be fentanyl along with four grams of crystal methamphetamine. Jose Perez Lorta, a 24 year old, was charged with Possession of Controlled substance PG1 >=4G<200G (methamphetamines) and Manufacture and Delivery Controlled Substance PG1B >400G (Fentanyl).  Perez was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Jail under a total bond of $207,500 bond.

WANTED SEX OFFENDER – GUADALUPE SALDANA JR.

September 8, 2021

El Paso, Texas – On September 3, 2021, Guadalupe Saldana Jr. absconded from the El Paso Transitional Living Center located in Horizon, Texas. He was allowed to go to work but never returned to the facility and his whereabouts are now unknown.

He is now wanted on a parole violation warrant and an additional charge of Sex Offenders Duty to Register is forthcoming. His sex offense is for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, the victim being a 12 year old female and he is currently on parole for said offense.

HIT AND RUN – STEEL MILL AND HIGHLAND – UPDATE:

September 1, 2021

El Paso TX- On August 31, 2021, at approximately 1:30 hours pm, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Investigators conducted a follow up on the block of 18000 Joe Ojeda in Tornillo, Texas. The follow up was regarding a Hit and Run involving a pedestrian that occurred on August 29, 2021, at the block of 200 Steel Mill. During the follow up, Investigators located the vehicle involved in the crash and identified the driver as Javier Ochoa. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $10,000.00 bond for Accident Involving Death along with several other outstanding warrants.

El Paso, TX – On August 29, 2021, at about 1:40 a.m., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies with the Peter J. Herrera Station were dispatched to the intersection of Steel Mill and Highland in Tornillo, Texas. Upon their arrival, they located 27-year-old Arturo Ramirez without any signs of life after being struck by a vehicle.

The vehicle that struck Mr. Ramirez fled the scene, leaving him on the roadway. Special Traffic Investigators are requesting the public’s assistance with this investigation. MOST WANTED CAPTURED – BENJAMIN SMITH

El Paso, Texas – On September 1, 2021, at approximately 0745 hrs, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies with Warrants & Fugitive Apprehension Unit were conducting an investigation at the 8900 block of Sampson Ct. in El Paso, TX in reference to a wanted subject.

Wanted felon Benjamin Smith had several active outstanding felony warrants and was recently featured in the El Paso Sheriff’s Office Most Wanted list. During surveillance, Deputies spotted Smith smoking in the backyard of the home. Deputies contacted Smith via cell phone and advised him to walk out and surrender. Smith denied being at the residence and provided false information on his whereabouts.

After further investigation, Deputies contacted a family member at the front entrance who confirmed Smith was located inside the home. Smith was then safely taken into custody and booked at the El Paso County Jail without incident.

6TH Annual Northeast Regional Command Community Fair 2021

El Paso, TX – On August 29, 2021 El Paso County Sheriff’s Office participated in the 6th Annual Northeast Regional Command Community Fair 2021. This event is sponsored by the City of El Paso Parks and Recreation to Recognize and Honor the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. The event took place at the Northeast Regional Park, located at 11270 McCombs, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event showcases businesses, city entities, charitable organizations, schools and local entertainment for the Northeast community. The event had free health screenings, food trucks, live DJ, military, law enforcement and first responder vehicles on display.

2021 Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser

Sheriff Richard D. Wiles, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, and Sheriff’s Foundation will be hosting  its Annual Golf Tournament to benefit Crime Stoppers of El Paso on Friday, November 12, 2021. At the end of the event, Sheriff Wiles will present Crime Stoppers of El Paso with a donation check. In advance Sheriff Richard D. AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ON UNION AVE.

August 24, 2021 El Paso, Texas – On August 21, 2021, at 0028 hours El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the 15500 block of Union Ave. El Paso, County Texas, in reference to shots fired. Deputies arrived and discovered that during an altercation were, shots fired and as a result, a 22-year-old male was struck in the neck. The male was transported to a local area hospital and is currently in critical condition. CAR SEAT EVENT AT WM DAVID SURRATT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

El Paso, Texas – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation, DPS, and Fire Department held its 1st Car Seat Event since COVID on August 18th, 2021 at WM David Surratt Elementary school.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office along with the Texas Department of Transportation, DPS, and Fire Department were able to assist 18 children, provide 15 car seats and destroy 12 car seats that were no longer safe. Special thanks to El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputies, Edward Ortega, Eduardo Placencia, Claudia Graziano, Carolina Perez and Jorge Alvillar for their participative efforts.

KIDNAPPING IN TORNILLO TX

KIDNAPPING IN TORNILLO TX

El Paso, Texas – On Friday, August 20th, 2021, El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 19000 block of in Tornillo, TX in reference to a Kidnapping.  Upon arrival deputies learned, Angel Elias, 18 forced entry into the residence and abducted a female subject by force.  Elias also stole property from the residence as he left.  The female subject was located nearby with minor injuries.  Elias was later located and taken in into custody without incident.  He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $100,000 bond.

MOST WANTED TAKEN INTO CUSTODY- CERVANTES JOHNNY

El PASO TX, – On August 23, 2021, at approximately 08:30 a.m. El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies assigned to the Fugitive Apprehension / Warrants Division conducted an investigation on a crime stoppers tip. The tip advised that the wanted felon was in the El Paso area and living with his parents.


Johnny Cervantes, had been featured on El Paso’s Most Wanted on 10-19-2018. Through investigation, an address was located for the parents of the wanted felon. Fugitive Apprehension/Warrants Division Deputies and Clint Patrol Deputies located the wanted felon at the 14000 block of Escalera in Horizon City Texas. The wanted felon was taken into custody without incident. He was booked on the following warrants: 2 Counts of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity with No bond.

El Paso, TX –.The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Community Services Section held training for the Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 2005 on Wednesday, August 18th, 2021.

Explorers continued their training and participation in the explorer post with learning how to process a crime scene scenario. This training included the process of dusting and lifting latent prints from glass surfaced areas. In addition, Explorers were shown how to measure, photograph and diagram a crime scene.

The goal of the Explorer Post is to afford an opportunity to young adults of the community to observe, participate and learn about law enforcement. The explorer post and its advisors provide explorers with education, training, and important information upon which to base their decision to pursue a career in law enforcement.

FIELD DAY AT RED SANDS ELEMENTARY

FIELD DAY AT RED SANDS ELEMENTARY

El Paso, Texas – On Friday, August 13, 2021, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies assigned to the East Montana Patrol Station arrived at Red Sands Elementary for “Field Day”.  Deputies spent time with students during their lunch time and interacted with them by playing soccer and other activities.  Deputies also assisted School Resource Officer Deputy with lockdown procedures in cases of an active shooter.  Deputies explained to students where they need to hide in cases of emergency.

Deputies explained to teachers and other staff what protocol they need to follow to secure the school and keep the students safe.  Students and staff really enjoyed the presence of law enforcement.
