BLOOD DRIVE AT SHERIFF'S OFFICE HEADQUARTERS

El Paso, Texas – In a show of community support, On August 17, 2023, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm., the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with Vitalant, held a blood drive. The blood drive occurred at the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Headquarters at 3850 Justice Dr., El Paso, TX 79938. Many of our office members showed their support by donating blood. Vitalant exceeded their goal of pints of blood, and their staff conveyed their deep appreciation and thanks for a job well done. Once again, El Paso County Sheriff's Office employees stepped up with this generous donation that can save up to three lives.

UNATTENDED DEATH INVESTIGATION

El Paso, Texas – On August 17, 2023, at approximately 4:00 PM, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to a report of a body in the canal area of 1100 block of Hole in the Wall, El Paso County, Texas. The Major Crimes Unit was requested to the location and can confirm that the body that was located is a male individual approximately 30 years of age. The male individual has not been positively identified, and the investigation is ongoing. No other information is available at this time.

VIN ETCHING & CHILD FINGERPRINT EVENT

El Paso, Texas – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and Constables Office Pct.6 are partnering with the El Paso Police Department Auto Theft Task Force to host a Vehicle Theft Prevention/Free VIN Etching Event on Saturday, August 19th, 2023, at the San Eli Supermarket located at 1330 N. Fabens Rd. from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
VIN Etching is the process where the vehicle’s identification number is permanently etched onto the vehicle. The process takes about 15 minutes to perform. Deputies and Constables will also offer a free child fingerprinting event to the residents of Fabens and the surrounding communities.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office offers these events to give back to the community and help give parents peace of mind if their child goes missing.

SHERIFF’S OFFICE RELEASE - AGGRAVATED ASSAULT- MIGUEL ANGEL OROZCO

El Paso, Texas – On August 15, 2023, at approximately 10:23 PM, deputies assigned to the Montana Patrol Station were dispatched to the 12900 block of Jobe Road in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving a truck and a bicycle. Further investigation revealed that the driver, 19-year-old Miguel Angel Orozco, was traveling on Jobe Road at a high rate of speed when his vehicle collided with the 15-year-old bicyclist. The 15-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital and later discharged after sustaining minor injuries. Orozco was charged with Aggravated Assault and booked into the El Paso County Jail with a $10,000 bond.

Criminal Investigations Targeted Response Unit ARREST- DEANDRE JANKA

El Paso, Texas – On August 10, 2023, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the Montana Patrol Station Criminal Investigations Targeted Response Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at the 12600 block of Ditton Court. The 32-year-old Deandre Janka passenger had two outstanding criminal warrants for Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1>=4G<200G and Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1>=400G. Janka was taken into custody without further incident and was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Jail with no bond.

ACTIVE SHOOTER PRESENTATION AT TEXAS KIDS DENTAL CARE – FABENS LOCATION

EL PASO, TEXAS – On Monday, August 14, 2023, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies from the Community Service Section gave a Civilian Response to Active Shooter Event course to eight staff members employed with Texas Kids Dental Care, located at 1018 Fabens Rd. This presentation is designed to assist civilians in understanding what they should do if confronted with an active shooter event. The course is aimed and developed on the AVOID, DENY, and DEFEND strategies originated by ALERT, and it provides strategies, guidance, and a plan for surviving and active shooter event.

FUGITIVE APPREHENSION UNIT ARREST- VALENTIN SORIANO

August 14, 2023
El Paso, Texas – On July 4, 2022, 59-year-old Valentin Soriano was involved in a single-vehicle crash at the 14500 block of Tangerine in El Paso County, Texas. As a result of that crash, a passenger in that vehicle succumbed to his injuries and was deceased on the scene. Valentin Soriano was also injured in the crash as he showed signs of intoxication as was admitted to the hospital for those injuries. Traffic investigators obtained blood evidence to determine Valentin Soriano's intoxication. That evidence was then returned from DPS in 2023, which showed him intoxicated at the time of the crash. Traffic Investigators obtained a warrant of arrest for Intoxication Manslaughter for the arrest of Valentin Soriano with a $75,000.00 bond.
El Paso, Texas – On August 14, 2023, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Warrants and Fugitive Apprehension Unit placed Valentin Soriano under arrest for the offense and booked him into the county jail.

EL PASO COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE HOSTS SUCCESSFUL MEDIA MEET AND GREET EVENT

El Paso, TX – The El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSCO) took a significant step in fostering closer ties with the local law enforcement and news media by hosting its first Media Meet and Greet event. The event, organized by the newly appointed Public Affairs Director, Vanessa Tena, served as a platform for building stronger relationships and open lines of communication between the EPSCO and various news stations in the El Paso area.
The Media Meet and Greet event, held at the Sheriff's Office Headquarters on August 10, 2023, proved to be a resounding success. Representatives from local news stations, attended the event. The presence of esteemed journalists and news anchors demonstrated their shared commitment to accurate reporting and a desire for a productive partnership with the EPSCO.
During the event, Vanessa Tena, expressed her excitement about the opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the EPCSO and the local news media. She highlighted the importance of transparent and timely communication in building trust and understanding between law enforcement agencies and the community they serve.
In addition to fostering relationships, the Media Meet and Greet event provided an opportunity for the EPSCO to share its vision, goals, and ongoing initiatives directly with the local news media. Vanessa Tena discussed the office's commitment to community engagement, crime prevention, and public safety. The EPSCO's leadership team was also present to answer questions and provide insights into the office's strategic priorities.
The Media Meet and Greet event featured interactive sessions where journalists had the opportunity to engage in open discussions and address concerns related to law enforcement activities in the community. The EPSCO leadership team, including Commander Ryan Urrutia, affirmed their commitment to transparency and pledged to work closely with the news media to ensure accurate reporting on matters concerning public safety.
"We are thrilled to have Mrs. Tena as part of the Office and to have the opportunity to meet with the esteemed representatives of our local news stations during the Media Meet and Greet event," said Commander Urrutia. "Building strong relationships with the media is crucial in effectively serving and protecting our community. We look forward to working together to enhance transparency, share vital information, and foster mutual understanding."
The EPSCO is dedicated to maintaining an open line of communication with the local news media to ensure accurate and timely reporting of law enforcement activities. The office plans to host regular briefings, provide access to relevant information, and collaborate on community outreach initiatives to further strengthen the partnership between the EPSCO and local news organizations.

EXPLORER POST 2005 - TRAINING
EL PASO, TEXAS – On August 10, 2023, from 6:00 pm. to 8:30 pm., The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Community Services Section held training for the Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 2005. In this session, Explorers trained and learned about Domestic Violence. Deputies instructed explorers on how to handle domestic violence calls. During the simulations, deputies evaluated the explorers' performance in various areas, such as officer presence, communication skills, officer safety, and coordination with dispatch. Actors were involved in the simulations to assist with the assessment process. Additionally, four young adults were present to observe and participate in hopes of becoming new members of the Explorer Post 2005. The Explorer Post is a program for young adults between the ages of 14 to 20 who are interested in a career in Law Enforcement. El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies train the Explorers on topics that patrol deputies respond to. These topics include domestic violence, burglary in progress, building searches, arrest and search, traffic stops, felony traffic, crime scene, and hostage negotiations. The Sheriff's Office currently has ten explorers in their post.

EL PASO, TEXAS – Crime Stoppers of El Paso, Inc., distributes fugitives wanted by the El Paso Police Department and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office every week through the Most Wanted feature. The attached fugitives are individuals, where attempts in locating them for one reason or another have been unsuccessful. The agencies submit these fugitives to Crime Stoppers of El Paso, Inc., which distributes them to the news media and offers the use of the Crime Stoppers hotline for information regarding the whereabouts of these fugitives. Anyone with information on the location of any of these fugitives should call Crime Stoppers of El Paso immediately at (915) 566-8477 (TIPS), or submit the information on-line at www.crimestoppersofelpaso.org. You will remain anonymous, and if your tip leads to an arrest, you can qualify for a cash reward. TRAFFIC ALERT–Aug. 11 2023

EL PASO TX - On August 11, 2023, at approximately 1:05 pm., El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Mission Ridge and Addingham, in El Paso County, in reference to a sinkhole approximately 20 feet wide. With the assistance of El Paso County Roads and Bridges and Horizon FD, the 700 block of Mission Ridge will remain closed in both directions as maintenance crews work to repair the roadways.
