OPEN HOUSE EVENT AT THE EL PASO SOUTH CENTRAL VA CLINIC

El Paso, Texas – On August 19, 2023, The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office- Crisis Intervention Team participated in the Open House event at the El Paso South Central VA Clinic located at 350 Revere St. The El Paso South Central clinic will be providing services to local veterans and will enhance linkage to a diversity of services for veterans in need of medical assistance, dental services, counseling, mental health services, shelter, and job opportunities.

During this event, CIT educated participants and veterans attending the inauguration event on the services the Crisis Intervention Team provides. CIT provided community resource packets to people attending the event. CIT units also met with local service providers for veterans and created partnerships to provide services for veterans during CIT encounters.

EL PASO, TEXAS – Francisco Alvarez, who was initially featured on the Crime Stoppers Most Wanted for the week of August 18, 2023, has been apprehended. Alvarez was wanted for ASSAULT FAMILY/ HOUSEHOLD MEMBER PREV CONV IAT. Please remove Alvarez from any postings, as he is no longer wanted for this charge.

El Paso, Texas - On August 21, 2023, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Public Affairs Director visited University Medical Center (UMC), which was truly eye-opening and inspiring. The dedication and commitment she witnessed from the medical staff, coupled with the state-of-the-art facilities, left her in awe of the incredible work they do daily.

Many thanks to the Director of Public Affairs of UMC for extending a warm invitation and providing an incredible tour to Vanessa Tena, the Public Affairs Director of the El Paso Sheriff's Office. Special thanks to Ryan Mielke, at UMC, for organizing such an informative and engaging tour. The attention to detail and willingness to share valuable insights about the hospital's operations, cutting-edge technologies, and patient care strategies were commendable.

Collaboration between different organizations is crucial in fostering a safer and healthier community. The opportunity for the new Public Affairs Director of the El Paso Sheriff's Office to witness firsthand the incredible work being done at UMC will undoubtedly strengthen the partnership between law enforcement and healthcare professionals in our county.

Let us continue working together, bridging gaps between various sectors and creating a stronger, safer, healthier community for all. It is through collaboration and mutual understanding that we can achieve great things. VIN ETCHING & CHILD FINGERPRINTING EVENT

EL PASO, TX - On August 19, 2023, The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and Constables Office Pct.6 partnered with the El Paso Police Department Auto Theft Task Force to hold a Vehicle Theft Prevention/Free VIN Etching Event at the San Eli Supermarket located at 1330 N. Fabens Rd. from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

VIN Etching is the process where the vehicle’s identification number is permanently etched onto the vehicle. The process takes about 15 minutes to perform. Deputies and Constables also offered free child fingerprinting to the residents of Fabens and the surrounding communities. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will be offering these events to give back to the community and help give parents peace of mind if their child goes missing. During the event 45 vehicles were etched and 40 children were fingerprinted

Additionally, we would like to thank Mr. Stephen Plummer with the El Paso Police Department Auto Theft Task Force, Starbucks located at 3400 Joe Battle for providing the coffee and Constable Javier Garcia from Justice Of the Peace Precinct 6-2 Office for providing the food and drinks.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVOLVING A MARKED PATROL UNIT

August 18, 2023

El Paso, Texas - On August 18, 2023, at approximately 6:50 a.m., El Paso County Sheriff's Office Special Traffic Investigators were dispatched to the intersection of Pebble Hills and Zaragoza in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving a marked patrol vehicle. The investigation revealed that the marked patrol vehicle had disregarded a red light and collided with a Chevrolet Sonic with four occupants inside. Minor injuries were reported, and the deputy was transported to a local hospital. The intersection of Pebble Hills and Zaragoza was closed for approximately four hours while investigators conducted their investigation.

MONTANA PATROL STATION CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION TARGETED RESPONSE UNIT ARREST – SHELBY LYNN GARCIA

August 18, 2023

El Paso, Texas – On August 16, 2023, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the Montana Patrol Station Criminal Investigation Targeted Response Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at the 12600 block of Ditton Court. During the traffic stop, it was discovered that one of the vehicle’s passengers provided fictitious identifying information to deputies. The passenger, 27-year-old Shelby Lynn Garcia, had three outstanding criminal warrants for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1<1G, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1<1G, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1>=1G<4G. Garcia was taken into custody with an additional charge of Fail to Identify Fugitive from Justice and was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Jail.

BLOOD DRIVE AT SHERIFF'S OFFICE HEADQUARTERS

August 18, 2023

El Paso, Texas – In a show of community support, On August 17, 2023, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm., the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with Vitalant, held a blood drive. The blood drive occurred at the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Headquarters at 3850 Justice Dr., El Paso, TX 79938. Many of our office members showed their support by donating blood. Vitalant exceeded their goal of pints of blood, and their staff conveyed their deep appreciation and thanks for a job well done. Once again, El Paso County Sheriff's Office employees stepped up with this generous donation that can save up to three lives.

UNATTENDED DEATH INVESTIGATION

August 17, 2023

El Paso, Texas – On August 17, 2023, at approximately 4:00 PM, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to a report of a body in the canal area of 1100 block of Hole in the Wall, El Paso County, Texas. The Major Crimes Unit was requested to the location and can confirm that the body that was located is a male individual approximately 30 years of age. The male individual has not been positively identified, and the investigation is ongoing. No other information is available at this time.

SHERIFF’S OFFICE RELEASE - AGGRAVATED ASSAULT- MIGUEL ANGEL OROZCO

August 16, 2023

El Paso, Texas – On August 15, 2023, at approximately 10:23 PM, deputies assigned to the Montana Patrol Station were dispatched to the 12900 block of Jobe Road in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving a truck and a bicycle. Further investigation revealed that the driver, 19-year-old Miguel Angel Orozco, was traveling on Jobe Road at a high rate of speed when his vehicle collided with the 15-year-old bicyclist. The 15-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital and later discharged after sustaining minor injuries. Orozco was charged with Aggravated Assault and booked into the El Paso County Jail with a $10,000 bond.

Criminal Investigations Targeted Response Unit ARREST- DEANDRE JANKA

August 15, 2023

El Paso, Texas – On August 10, 2023, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the Montana Patrol Station Criminal Investigations Targeted Response Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at the 12600 block of Ditton Court. The 32-year-old Deandre Janka passenger had two outstanding criminal warrants for Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1>=4G<200G and Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1>=400G. Janka was taken into custody without further incident and was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Jail with no bond.
