  • The County Attorney Mental Health Unit represents the State of Texas in mental health and mental retardation commitment hearings and advocates on behalf of consumers of mental health and mental retardation services regarding the delivery of those services in our community.
  • Specifically, the Mental Health Unit:
  •  -Advocates for access to high quality mental health and mental retardation services;
  •  -Facilitates inter-agency collaboration for the development of solutions to problems in the mental health system, and
  •  -Trains peace officers, medical professional, social workers, and mental health workers on how to access emergency mental services.
  • A member of the Mental Health Unit chairs the Interfacility Task Force to foster inter-agency collaboration to solve problems in the mental health system.
