  • Commander Urrutia

  • Commander Ryan Urrutia was raised in El Paso, Texas and is a graduate of Irvin High School. He began his career with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office in 1996 as a Detention Officer. Commander Urrutia was promoted to the rank of Deputy Sheriff in 1997, where he was assigned to several sections, including Specialized Traffic Investigations, and as an instructor at the Region VIII Training Academy. Commander Urrutia was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and served in the Narcotics Division as well as the Office of Emergency Management. When he promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, he served as the Station Commander of the Peter J. Herrera substation as well as the Criminal Investigations Division. In 2017, Commander Urrutia was appointed as Commander and assigned to the Patrol Division. He leads four patrol stations, the Office's Emergency Response Teams, and the Office's newly deployed Crisis Intervention Team. Commander Ryan Urrutia has a master's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Purdue and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 267.
