Tornillo, TX - El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 18000 block of Alameda Ave. in reference to a structure fire just before 6:30 p.m., Friday, July 31, 2015.

Upon arrival Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered that the fire was located in the back portion of the John Deere South Plains Implement building. It took fire crews close to three hours to extinguish the fire, the following fire departments responded; Clint, Fabens, and Horizon City.

No injuries were reported and the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The estimated loss is valued at $800,000. Initial investigation by the Fire Marshal indicates this was a possible electrical fire. Fire Marshal will continue the investigation.

UPDATE - El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has identified the driver of the motorcycle accident as Roberto Chavira-Meza, 29 years old. The cause of the accident is still being investigated by the Special Traffic Investigation at this time. 

El Paso, TX - El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to an accident involving a motorcycle and truck around 8:45pm at the 4300 block of Oleary Dr.

A Grey Toyota Tacoma was traveling South bound on Oleary Dr. the truck was going to make a left turn, as the truck was making the left turn a Yamaha motorcycle traveling south bound on Oleary Dr. collided with the truck.

Five passengers were in the truck at the time of the accident. One passenger was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The motorcyclist is identified only as a male; he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The 4300 block of Oleary Dr. remains closed north and southbound pending the investigation. Special Traffic Investigation Section was called out. The investigation continues, Oleary Dr. will remain closed for several more hours.

El Paso, TX - The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office hosted a FREE car seat check – up event, Friday, July 24th, 2015. In partnership with University Medical Center of El Paso, and the Texas Department of Transportation, Sheriff’s Office deputies checked car seats for proper installation.

The FREE car seat check – up event took place at the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Training Academy parking lot; 12501 Montana. Over the last several months deputies were tasked with identifying 15 families from each patrol district that were in need of a car seat. The families were identified during stationary vehicle checks, business checks, dispatched calls, and traffic stops.

During the event the department exceeded expectations and made contact with over 55 citizens in 29 vehicles. Deputies checked 35 child safety restraint seats and while inspecting them took possession of 14 that were unserviceable. Deputies issued a total of 21 car seats to families in need and one of those seats was for a child who was special needs.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will continue to identify those in need of car seats in the county and plan future car seat check - up events accordingly.

El Paso, TX - Sheriff Richard Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Border Crime Initiative will be featured on A&E’s “American Takedown” series July 30th, 2015 at 8:00 pm local time.

"American Takedown" is a documentary series showcasing highly specialized tactical law enforcement units across the U.S. that protect and serve against some of the most cunning and dangerous criminals in the country. The series gives an inside look at the unique and critical work that America's top investigators, specialists and agents carry out to keep our nation safe.

Each week, a different police force and the crime worlds they investigate will be profiled.

This week "American Takedown" will showcase personnel assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Border Crime Initiative Unit. The Crime Initiative Unit works in tandem with Special Agents & Investigators from the Department of Homeland Security Investigations, Drug Enforcement Administration, District Attorney’s Office, and other local Law Enforcement Agencies.

They are committed to utilize all collective efforts & resources to investigate, arrest, dismantle and successfully prosecute all narcotics trafficking organizations and their affiliates involved in the manufacturing, transportation, distribution, selling and use of all illegal drugs in or being transported through the West Texas / El Paso area.
