2022 MAJESTY CAR CLUB TOY DRIVE

PARTNERS PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD AND HELP US PROMOTE EVENT!

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has been very fortunate, and several organizations want to help with Santa with a Badge Toy Drive.

The organizers of Majesty Car Club will have a car show on Sunday, December 4th, 2022, at Twin Peaks, located at The Fountains at Farah. They will have beautiful cars and trucks displayed for the public to enjoy. In addition, participants and community people can donate lots and lots of toys for the County of El Paso children. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Foundation aims to collect more than 2,000 toys.

If anyone wishes to donate toys or make a monetary donation, it can be dropped off at El Paso County Sheriff's Office Headquarters, 3850 Justice Drive off Montana Avenue. Donations can be made to the El Paso County Sheriff's Foundation.

Red, White, & You Recruitment Fair

November 28, 2022

El Paso, Texas – On Tuesday, November 15, 2022, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Human Resource Department and Deputies and Detention Officers attended the Red, White, and You (BLUE) Hiring Fair held at the El Paso County Coliseum. The Texas Workforce Solutions event consisted of employers throughout Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. The hiring fair focused on connecting transitioning service members, military spouses, National Guard, Reserves, veterans, and their families with employers.

Sheriff's Office representatives explained the hiring process for our agency as well as the benefits provided by the county.

Facing Additional Charges:Assault on a Public Servant and Attempt to take a weapon from A public servant.

November 28, 2022

El Paso, Texas – On the morning of November 27th, 2022, Joe Watts was arrested for an Assault for Family Violence Warrant by El Paso Police Department. While incarcerated at the El Paso County Jail, he was escorted to University Medical Center by detention staff for a medical appointment. Inmate Watts confronted the nursing staff during his appointment as they attempted to treat Watts. The detention officer escorting Watts attempted to de-escalate the inmate, and Watts kicked the detention officer and attempted to remove the duty weapon from the detention officer’s holster. The detention officer-maintained control of his weapon and prevented Watts from assaulting UMC staff or citizens at the hospital. Joe Watts is facing additional charges of Assault on a Public Servant and Attempt to take a weapon from a public servant with a bond of$10,000.00.

Northwest Patrol Station Turkey Giveaway

November 23, 2022

El Paso, Texas – El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies with the Northwest Patrol station had a Turkey Giveaway at their station. The turkey donation was from the El Paso County Sheriff's Foundation. The Sheriff's Office Deputies assisted by giving them out to the families in the Canutillo and Vinton area. Deputies worked in partnership with Bill Childress Elementary to help families in need.

SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATES A SHOOTING AT THE 7100 BLOCK OF 3rd ST

November 22, 2022

El Paso, Texas – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting at the 7100 block of 3rd St., Canutillo, TX. The Sheriff’s Office can confirm that one person has been transported to a local hospital. The Sheriff’s Office major crimes unit is enroute and will take over the investigation. No further information at this time.

COLORING BOOKS DONATED TO HUECO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

El Paso, Texas – On November 18, 2022, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies had the honor and privilege of meeting with retired Staff Sergeant "Pete" Flores and retired C.W.O. Officer Wayne Gilbert at Hueco Elementary in Socorro, TX. The purpose of the meeting was to present a donation of coloring books to the school. Staff Sergeant Flores is the author of these books, which teach children how to stay safe from danger. Both gentlemen are veterans of the Korean War. Staff Sergeant Flores was named Veteran of the year. Hueco Elementary faculty and staff were delighted with the presence of both gentlemen and appreciative of their dotation. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is honored that these two fine gentlemen chose our agency as a partner to present these coloring books to the school.

THEFT AND BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE

November 20, 2022

El Paso, Texas – On November 16, 2022, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies received information about a theft that occurred at the 1100 block of Aspen Hills in Fabens, Texas. During the investigation, Deputies learned that a surveillance camera in the area captured the theft. The camera captured two subjects stealing items from the Victim’s vehicle, including a catalytic converter. Additionally, deputies could positively identify one of the subjects as 25-year-old Erik Montes. Deputies were able to locate Montes the following day, and the Detectives interviewed Montes.

Further investigation identified the second subject as 49-year-old Leopoldo Hernandez. A search warrant was conducted, and Detectives located the stolen items, which were then returned to the rightful owner. Montes was arrested and booked in the El Paso County Sheriff’s Detention Facility for theft and burglary of a vehicle. Montes is being held under a total bond of $6,000.00. Hernandez was also arrested and booked for the theft and burglary of a vehicle with a $6,000.00 total bond.

Turkey Giveaway at Community Center

November 15, 2022

El Paso, Texas – On Saturday, November 12, 2022, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies assigned to the East Montana Patrol Station participated in the community meeting and turkey giveaway held at the Socorro Ramirez Community Center. The meeting was for the families in the Sparks area who are less fortunate during these times of need. The Veterans Group of El Paso provided the attendees with a free turkey meal for their families.

Deputies interacted with residents and provided information on "Lock it or Lose it" and Identity Theft. Deputies also answered questions and wished them a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Featured Fugitives are Apprehended – Oscar Barraza and Taylor Truan

SHERIFF’S OFFICE MEDIA ADVISORY

El Paso, Texas –     El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputies located and arrested the wanted subject 24-year-old Barraza, Oscar, and wanted subject 23-year-old Truan, Taylor Nicole at the 300 Block of N Fabens Rd. Barraza was wanted for Fail to Report Felony w/SBI or Death Results with a bond set at $1,000.00. Truan was wanted for Agg Robbery with a bond set at $35,000.00 and Interfere w/Emergency Request for Assistance with a bond set at $1,500.00. Both were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with no incident.

Please remove Oscar Barraza and Taylor Truan from any postings, as they are no longer wanted for these charges.

Featured Fugitive IS Apprehended – Angel Resto Jr.

SHERIFF’S OFFICE MEDIA ADVISORY

El Paso, Texas –   El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputies located and arrested wanted subject Resto, Angel Jr. Age 48, at the 300 Block of NE Camp St. Resto was wanted for Interfere w/Public Duties with a bond set at $2,500.00. Resto was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with no incident.

La Secretaria de Seguridad Publica del Estado de Chihuahua

November 14, 2022

El Paso, Texas – Sheriff Richard Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office hosted a group of officers from La Secretaria de Seguridad Publica del Estado de Chihuahua on November 7 and November 8, 2022.  The Chihuahua agency is in the process of obtaining CALEA Accreditation in March of next year. The entire group worked with very closely with Sheriff’s Office personnel to review Sheriff’s Office Policies and Procedures that are implemented through the entire agency.

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority thought the joint efforts of law enforcement’s major executive associations:

· International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP)

· National Organization of Black Law enforcement Executives (NOBLE)

· National sheriff’s Association (NSA)

· Police Executive Research Forum (PERF)

Accreditation embodies the precepts of community-oriented policing. It creates a forum in which law enforcement agencies and citizens work together to prevent and control challenges confronting law enforcement and provides clear direction about expectations.
