TxDOT INTRODUCES “WALKING BILLBOARDS” TO INCREASE PEDESTRIAN AWARENESS

March 25, 2021

El Paso, Texas – With pedestrian deaths on the rise, TxDOT is reminding both drivers and pedestrians to stay alert as spring’s warm weather brings more people walking outside for exercise or a change of scenery from working or studying at home.

In El Paso in 2019, there were 209 traffic crashes involving pedestrians, resulting in 28 fatalities and 35 serious injuries.

Drivers and pedestrians have a shared responsibility to watch out for each other. TxDOT will conduct a socially distant outreach campaign in the state’s major cities — in areas with high volumes of pedestrians.
