The public can expect a large procession and for the roads near and around the above mention, areas to be closed for the duration of the procession.  The Sheriff’s Office apologizes for the inconvenience but asks the public to bear with us during this difficult time.  Normal traffic flow will resume once the end of the procession passes through the area.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT- PHONE SCAMS

March 4, 2019

El Paso, TX – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office wants to make the citizens of El Paso County aware of telephone scams that have claimed several victims.

People around El Paso County have received phone calls from an individual identifying themselves as an employee of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

The scammer/offender then claims that the individual/victim has ignored one of the following: jury duty summons, unpaid tickets, warrants or court summons and they must either make a payment or report to Sheriff’s Office Headquarters to resolve the matter.

In cases where a payment is requested, the VICTIM is told to buy Money Trax cards or gift cards for varying amounts to resolve the matter. After the VICTIM purchases the money cards, the scammer requests the serial numbers displayed on the money cards so that the warrant can be taken care of. Those numbers are then turned into cash by the scammer depriving the victim of the money.

The Sheriff’s office would also like to remind citizens that they will never be contacted by phone requesting payment for outstanding criminal warrants.

If anyone has been a victim of these scams, please contact the proper authorities. El Paso Police Department non-emergency number is 915-832-4400 and El Paso County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number is 915-832-4408.
