EXPLORER POST 2005 –TRAINING 4-14-2022

El Paso, Texas- On April 13, 2022, The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Community Services Section held training for the Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 2005. In this session, Explorers trained and learned about Instructional Guide for Crime Scene.

PowerPoint handouts were given to the Explorers by Deputy Daniel Sanchez. Explorers participated and conducted hands-on training, which consisted of dusting for fingerprints, lifting quality fingerprints, and how to properly collect blood evidence. Explorers were instructed on how to photograph a crime scene and how to properly sketch a crime scene by Michelle R. Flahive, Crime Scene Investigator. Other topics covered were crime scene preservation and the importance of preventing contamination in forensic investigations that can likely affect the integrity of the crime scene. Explorers were then divided into teams and given a scenario on how to sketch, measure, fingerprint, and properly process a crime scene.

The explorer post and its advisors provide explorers with education, training, and important information upon which to base their decision to pursue a career in law enforcement. Explorers were advised on next the training day being held on Thursday, April 28th at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Topic will be room clearing / building search.
