TRAVIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAREER DAY PRESENTATION

El Paso, Texas - On Friday, May 20th, 2022, EL Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies from the Community Services section participated in a career day presentation at Travis elementary school located at 5000 N Stevens St. The presentation was for elementary school students grades Kinder through 5th. The presentation consisted of career information, marked Sheriff’s H2 patrol vehicle(s), officer equipment and demonstrations by Sheriff’s Office uniformed personnel. Students learned about hiring process as well as the benefits provided by the county. Students also received information on the daily duties of a Sheriff Deputy.

Most Wanted Fugitives Week of May 20, 2022

EL PASO, TEXAS – Crime Stoppers of El Paso, Inc., distributes fugitives wanted by the El Paso Police Department and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office every week through the Most Wanted feature.  The attached fugitives are individuals, where attempts in locating them for one reason or another have been unsuccessful.  The agencies submit these fugitives to Crime Stoppers of El Paso, Inc., which distributes them to the news media and offers the use of the Crime Stoppers hotline for information regarding the whereabouts of these fugitives.  Anyone with information on the location of any of these fugitives should call Crime Stoppers of El Paso immediately at (915) 566-8477 (TIPS), or submit the information on-line at www.crimestoppersofelpaso.org.  You will remain anonymous, and if your tip leads to an arrest, you can qualify for a cash reward.  Crime Stoppers of El Paso, Inc., is a non-profit organization that brings together the community, law enforcement, and the media to solve crime.

TORNILLO HIGH SCHOOL – CAREER DAY PRESENTATION

El Paso, Texas -  On Wednesday, May 18th, 2022, EL Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies from the Community Services section, and Detention Officer’s from the P.A.W.S. and S.R.T. section participated in a career day presentation at Tornillo High school located at the 400 block of Oil Mill Dr. The career day presentation was for high school students’ grades 9th through 12th.

The presentation consisted of career information, a demonstration of marked Sheriff H2 patrol vehicle, and officer equipment from Sheriff’s Office uniformed personnel. The Sheriff's Office P.A.W.S. section also gave a educational demonstration showcasing their K9 Simon. The students learned about the hiring process and the benefits provided by the El Paso County. Students also received information on the daily duties of a Detention Officer and a Sheriff Deputy.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF ON INTERSTATE 10 WESTBOUND

May 19, 2022

El Paso, Texas - On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at approximately 12:00 am., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies from the Peter J Herrera Patrol Station were dispatched to Interstate 10 Westbound at mile marker 46 in reference to criminal mischief. A male subject had been reported throwing rocks at passing vehicles. Deputies arrived at the scene and located Tony Wells Jr, a 29-year-old male, matching the description given by passerby citizens. After a brief foot chase, Wells was taken into custody without incident. The damage Wells allegedly caused is estimated at over $12,000. Wells was booked into the El Paso County Jail under a $14,500 bond for Criminal Mischief>=$2,500<$30,000 (Three Counts) and Criminal Mischief >=$750<$2,500 (Two Counts).

CAREER DAY PRESENTATION AT PARK ELEMENTARY

El Paso, Texas - On Wednesday, May 18th, 2022, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies from the Community Services section participated in a career day presentation at Park Elementary, located at the 3600 block of Edgar Park Dr., El Paso, Texas. The presentation was for 1st to 6th grade students who were excited to learn safety tips and a career as a Peace Officer. Presentation consisted of career information, officer equipment, a marked Sheriff’s patrol unit demonstration of emergency lights and sirens, firearm safety for kids and families, and teaching the students when and how to call 911.

NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT WEEK 2022

El Paso, Texas - On Monday, May 16th, 2022, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office accepted the resolution issued by Commissioners Court, recognizing May 15th - 21st, 2022, as “National Police Week.” This week in recognition of “National Police Week,” Sheriff Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will showcase Deputy Sheriffs for their hard work and dedication.

5TH ANNUAL COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL CEREMONY

El Paso, Texas - On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, Sheriff Richard Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office along with other El Paso County Agencies honored and remembered fallen county law enforcement officers during the 5th Annual County Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony. The event was held at the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters Memorial Wall located at 3850 Justice Dr., El Paso, TX 79938. During the ceremony, the Sheriff’s Office paid tribute to the lives of those who protect and serve us every minute of every day and honor the courageous officers who devoted themselves so fully to others that in the process they laid down their lives. May 15th through May 18th, 2022, is observed as “National Police Week” nationwide recognizing law enforcement officers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty protecting the public they serve.

WARRANT ARREST - JOHNATHON ACOSTA

May 17, 2022

El Paso, Texas- On Monday, May 16, 2022, at approximately 10:30pm, El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputies with the Peter John Herrera Patrol Station encountered a wanted subject at the 700 block of N. Fabens Rd.  Johnathon Acosta, 19-year-old, was advised he had an active warrant and then immediately fled on foot.  After a brief foot chase, Acosta was taken into custody without incident.  Acosta was booked into the El Paso County Jail under no bond for Probation Violation and a $1,000 bond for Evading Arrest.

RHINO INDUSTRIAL SUPPLY BALL DRIVE

El Paso, Texas- On May 11, 2022, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Community Services Deputies visited Rhino Industrial Supply on behalf of the El Paso County Foundation.  Rhino Industrial Supply joined the Sheriff's Office Foundation by bringing smiles to kids in El Paso County, donating close to 200 balls that were collected at their 3rd Annual Ball Drive held on May 7, 2022. The idea started with a goal to reduce screen time for children (phones, tablets, television, and video games) and encourage participation in fun outdoor activities. The balls collected are for all sports, with a significant donation increase from previous years.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Foundation will distribute the balls at various events throughout the year and distribute to Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies to hand out during calls, where they see fit. Rhino Industrial Supply will continue to have this event every year to help kids in the county that are less fortunate than others.

EL PASO, TEXAS – Fernando Torres, who was initially featured on the Crime Stoppers Most Wanted for the week of May 6, 2022, has been apprehended.  Torres was wanted for AGGRAVATED ASSAUALT DATE/ FAMILY/ HOUSE W WEAPON.

VFW DAVIS SEAMON POST 812 COMMUNITY APPRECIATION DINNER

El Paso, Texas – On Friday, April 29, 2022, El Paso County Sheriff's Office attended the VFW Post community appreciation dinner. The Davis- Seamon VFW Post 812 presented the Sheriff's Office with a certificate of appreciation for assisting the post and the veterans throughout the pandemic.
