EL PASO, TX - The El Paso County Sheriff's Office hosted a moving tribute with the 4th Annual Peter John Herrera Memorial 5K Run/Walk on the morning of March 24, 2024, at Ascarate Park. At 8:00 am, participants gathered to honor the memory of Deputy Peter John Herrera, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty in March 2019 at the young age of 35. Proceeds from this heartfelt event will go towards the Deputy Peter John Herrera Scholarships Fund, ensuring that his legacy lives on through supporting future generations of law enforcement professionals. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is extremely grateful and sincerely appreciative of the generous support and dedication shown by all the sponsors and the individuals who participated in the race. The unwavering commitment to our mission means the world to us, and we cannot thank you enough for your invaluable assistance. The success of the race is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved, with a 46% increase of individuals showing their support through registration since our last race. The sense of community and unity that was felt throughout the event was truly inspiring, and we are thrilled to have had such a fantastic turnout.
